Lost Islands

Visiting the Galapagos is going back in time. The terrain, the behavior of animals, the plants, the air…it’s unlike anywhere else I have been. It feels timeless. It’s raw, harsh, and beautiful. The gift of its isolation shows one what nature is like untampered and untamed by human impact and intervention.

I made this work without the company of anyone I knew – diving, hiking, walking, watching largely without close company for a month. As I reflect on it now, this allowed me to experience many small moments of beauty with the animals and the place over my time there.

This private commision work was completed across the islands of the Galapagos above and below the sea. I used only two medium format film cameras: one for underwater and one for above water, both loaded, mostly, with black & white film.
